Rabbi Yisroel Bernath

Nice to meet you!

Rabbi Yisroel Bernath affectionately known as “The Love Rabbi,” is a rabbi, relationship coach, matchmaker, author, speaker, podcaster, and community leader based in Montreal.
For more than two decades, Rabbi Bernath has been helping Jewish singles and couples navigate the deeply human, sometimes beautiful, sometimes maddening world of love, dating, commitment, and marriage. As the founder of JMontreal.com, he has helped facilitate hundreds of Jewish matches and marriages, combining timeless Jewish wisdom with honest, practical relationship guidance.
Rabbi Bernath's work reached a wider audience through the acclaimed CBC documentary Kosher Love, which explored love, dating, and marriage through the lens of Jewish tradition and modern life. The film focused on Rabbi Bernath's matchmaking work and aired on CBC; it was later nominated for a Canadian Screen Award. In the documentary, Rabbi Bernath brought his signature blend of warmth, humour, directness, and spiritual depth to one of life's most vulnerable questions: how do we find real love in a world full of noise?
He is the Spiritual Director of Rohr Chabad NDG and Associate Chaplain at Concordia University, where he has guided thousands of people through moments of searching, growth, heartbreak, healing, celebration, and transformation. His relationship work is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: love is not just chemistry. Love is clarity, character, courage, and the willingness to build something real.
Through JMontreal.com, Rabbi Bernath offers singles a more personal and meaningful alternative to the endless swipe. His approach is not about treating people like profiles, résumés, or checklists. It is about seeing the whole person: their values, their story, their hopes, their fears, and the kind of life they are trying to build.
Known for his approachable style and heart-open wisdom, Rabbi Bernath helps singles clarify what they are looking for, date with intention, and move toward marriage with confidence and emotional honesty. He also works with couples, engaged partners, and families, offering guidance on communication, commitment, conflict, and building relationships that can actually last.
At the heart of his work is a sacred mission: to help Jewish souls find one another, build homes filled with love and purpose, and remind people that they are not broken, not behind, and not alone.
Or, as Rabbi Bernath often teaches: finding love is not about becoming someone else. It is about becoming more fully yourself, so the right person can finally recognize you.
